I Took The Plunge & Got A Full Face Ultherapy Treatment.

I recently gave ULTHERAPY Skin Tightening Treatment a go because if I was serious about treating the post natal sagging skin on my face, Ultherapy is definitely something I need to check out. I am definitely excited. This is the same treatment that Hollywood Celebrities like Jennifer Aniston and Kim Kardashian has been raving about.

Non-invasive, no downtime, and done in under an hour – what’s not to like about the treatment?

I just had my Ultherapy Skin Tightening Treatment done at Halley Medical Halley Medical  and I’m super looking forward to the results which will appear in the next 3-6 months gradually.

ULTHERAPY: In less than an hour, and without any downtime, a 1-time treatment is what is needed to get you well on your way to tighter, better-fitting skin.

Most people only need one treatment to see results (with a recommended yearly refresh). I was a little nervous going into the treatment because I heard that the treatment would be uncomfortable.

I focused on all the other painful things I’ve gone through in life (like giving birth twice), and figured, I’m just being a wussy now. Besides, Dr Tan’s assistant slathered numbing cream generously over my face before we started the treatment.

I love how numbing creams work. They numb so miraculously well! I have a low threshold for pain so I welcome numbing cream any time.

While waiting for the numbing cream to take effect, Dr Tan is super funny and his jokes are really entertaining. It really helped to ease the nerves.

Here’s him explaining the procedure before we start the treatment. He wanted to make sure I know what to expect. I love that he is so thorough about it.

Ultherapy Skin Tightening

As your skin matures, collagen fibres that provide internal support become worn.

Ultherapy uses focused ultrasound energy to help stimulate the growth of new, healthy collagen in the skin’s foundation that will help to lift and tighten skin. It works by penetrating deep into our skin, going pass the epidermis and dermis layer to heat up our body’s superficial muscular aponeurotic system (SMAS), which is a layer of of muscles and connective tissue that is rich in collagen. When this soft tissue is warmed up, collagen is produced thus firming up loose, saggy skin.

Unique to Ultherapy is also the use of ultrasound imaging, which allows the doctor to see the layers of skin tissue that he is treating. It allows him to deliver the energy accurately and to where it will be most beneficial. Specifically, it penetrates the skin at depths of 4.5mm, 3.0mm, and 1.5mm to induce collagen production.

Results are seen gradually between 2 to 3 months. According to Dr Tan, the procedure takes about 1 hour if you are doing your entire face.

Ready or not, here we go!

Ultherapy Skin Tightening

I have to be honest. The treatment doesn’t feel like a walk in the park – it can be uncomfortable. That’s why you need to have a consultation with the doctor first to see if you feel comfortable with him/her. Dr Tan was great for me. He was understanding and talked to me about how he will help me manage the discomfort. He also had one of his assistants holding a fan at my face.

He gave me squishy bears to help me through the Ultherapy Skin Tightening Treatment. Here are some more pictures of the treatment.

He’ll place the device for a few seconds each time on every part of your face, allowing the energy to pass through.

Areas where it is more boney will be a bit more uncomfortable more than areas which are fleshy. Comfort levels vary from person to person, but the sensation only lasts while the ultrasound energy is being delivered.

Having done the Ultherapy Skin Tightening Treatment on many patients, Dr Tan was really good at helping me manage the comfort level. I’m glad I had Ultherapy done at Halley!

There was no pain or redness or bruising or swelling after the treatment.

I’ve been staring at myself in the mirror, impatiently wanting to see the results. 1 week after the treatment, there was still a little bit of tingling feeling and slight tenderness to my face, evidence that the wheels are in motion.

Results aren’t going to be visible until 2-3 months later, so until then… stay tuned to my Instagram Account @ngjuann to see results!!

P.s.: I was considering between Thermage and Ultherapy but eventually went for Ultherapy because Ultherapy uses focused ultrasound (sound waves) that penetrate more deeply and precisely than the radio frequency technology used in Thermage.

    Hi

I chanced upon your blog and visited Dr Terence Tan recently. I did some simple fillers and he recommended ultherapy to me. I am wondering it has been sometime since you did this treatment, how is the effect? Do you need to have more fillers for “touch up”?

Hope to hear from you. I’ve been reading this in the internet and there seemed to be a lot of negative reviews from extreme fat loss.

Hi, I have a high pain threshold but I have to say it’s super painful! tattoos are a breeze. This is not. I just had it done in my neck today. 90 mins. of intense pain, shaking, sweat and finally tears. I know she put gel on me but not sure if it was just for the wand or actual numbing gel. My skin feels numb, deep tingles still, and surface burning. I have wells, bruising as well. It’s not a mild or slightly uncomfortable procedure. It’s pain ..plain and simple. My tech told me some people can’t finish and have to do sessions. I made myself finish bc I knew I’d never go back! Just so readers really know.

Hi Amy, thanks for sharing your experience. Sorry to hear that it was such painful experience for you. Depending on your pain threshold, Doctors would usually offer a range of pain management solutions to help with the discomfort (e.g.: Oral painkillers, numbing cream, stress balls, ice packs, cold air etc).

In some of the better doctors I’ve visited, they understand that pain management can be managed by engaging all the senses – sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch. If you want to know more about what I’ve experienced personally, do email or IG DM me :)

If you do go for another aesthetic treatment, it’ll be best to make a note to speak with your doctor on this. I hope you see results for your treatment!

Thank you for this honest account of Ultherapy. It is uncomfortable and clients should find a doctor who can provide some type of pain prevention.
