Pigeon Baby Steriliser

I asked a couple of friends what brands they use for sterilisers and there were quite different replies. One asked me to check out Philips Avent and the other strongly recommended Pigeon. And then again, as with stuff like that, mothers usually only use one brand and stick with it mostly.

I was quite confused with Philips Avent’s sterliser because I wasn’t sure if it could fit all bottles and I really kept seeing Philips everywhere! Pigeon is a well established brand that even I (when I was single) knew about it.

I decided to go with Pigeon after analysing the price, features and bundle deal. I bought mine at Robinsons Centrepoint the other day when they were having some member specials of 25% off. Robinson cardmembers get an addition 5% rebate off their final purchase as well. It is always a good deal at Robinsons! Haha – obvious happy customer here.

Anyhoo, back to the Sterilizer. Since I decided to get Pigeon cos of it’s brand and strong recommendation by my friend, I realised there are 2 types of Sterilizers. Oh gosh. Why so many types!!

Multi-function Sterilizer VERSUS Rapid Steam Sterilizer

You can read about each of them here. I was really inclined to get the Multi-Function one which allows you to steam & warm (milk bottles & food). That means only 1 device for 2 functions but then again, there are heaps of parts to it and only 1 base (the part that does all the work). So no simultaneous warming and sterilizing allowed. It takes about 9 mins to sterilize bottles in this.

For the Rapid Steam Sterilizer, it is faster at 6mins and does only sterilizing. The original price for this is S$120ish but there was this big package it came with at Robinsons with loads of freebies and that bumped the original price up to $138.

I got 25% member sale off and that brought the price down to $103.50 and further down to $98.30 after I get my 5% bill revbate. That is damn cheap la! Well compared to the prices I’ve been seeing elsewhere.

Here’s what I got for the price I paid:

Quite a good deal IMHO. :) All bottles are BPA free. I don’t know if this is good but my friend has used this for many years without any problems. Next up, I need a food & bottle warmer. Le sigh! Have to hunt for a good deal again!

Update on 10 Jan 2014:

I have been using this for 2 weeks now and I am loving it!

The Good:

It is SUPER water saving, considering that it only needs 120ml of water for every time I sterilise things.

It is super easy to operate. One button turn on and it switches off by itself once it’s done. I don’t have to standby and wait for it to finish then switch off. Just switch on and walk off.

The Bad:

It is REALLY bulky. My house has no space for such huge thing! I wish it were smaller but I’d buy this again anyway cos of the above reasons.

There really isn’t much to dislike about this steriliser. It’s so simple and straightforward that it really does just sterilise well and fast.

hey ju-on! Hoonie here. hope this post doesn’t come a little too late. its an exciting journey and glad to see u enjoying it. saw tat u r looking for food & bottle warmer. based on my personal experience (here we go..mama getting excited over sharing experience), its a good to have than an actual need. if u need to warm milk, just need to put the bottle in a cup (big enough for it to hold) with hot water and wait a few mins. it works the same way as those electric kind. hope this helps! enjoy the rest of the journey!
