Finding a Justice of Peace in Singapore

I am new to all this. Apparently, finding a good Justice of Peace to solemnize your wedding is quite important too. I always thought that since there is this extensive list of the people who can solemnize our wedding on the ROM website, there shouldn’t be a problem! Well, not if you want someone who can make your solemnization meaningful and memorable!

In Singapore, the Solemnizer will be the all-important person on your wedding day who will stand in front of your family members and friends and pronounce you man and wife. He might throw in a little good advice on how to maintain the marriage and all but someone who speaks well would be quite important in helping to make your whole experience more enjoyable.

The whole solemnization process takes about 20mins or more (depending on how much the solemnizer has to say). We are planning to have our marriage solemnized at an external venue so we will have to find our ideal Justice of Peace and then submit our forms for registration.

So apparently, according to forums and other brides-to-be, here are some of the more popular Justice of Peace in Singapore:

Dr Phua Tan Tee
TEL: +65 6753 1028
EMAIL: Phua_Tan_Tee@NEA.GOV.SG

>> We emailed him but unfortunately he wasn’t available for us at our preferred timeslot! :(

Assoc Prof Yu Shi Ming
TEL: +65 6467 2092
EMAIL: sdeyusm@nus.edu.sg

>> I heard that he tends to share Buddhist teachings during the ceremony. So take note if you’re of a particular religion!

Mr Sim Khee Wang Simon
TEL: +65 6563 6081
EMAIL: simontco@gmail.com

>> We emailed him. Heard he’s a family life ambassador who runs his own marriage prep talks.

Mr Lee Keok Boon Peter
TEL: +65 9791 0598
EMAIL: Peter_Lee@moh.gov.sg

>> Emailed him but no reply yet!

Mr Lau Tat Chuan
TEL: +65 9836 5720
EMAIL: tatchuan@fathers.com.sg

>> Emailed him and he replied quite quickly! He was available and we were very comfortable with his background and all. So happy he has agreed to be our solemnizer! :) Yay! One step nearer to being a MRS! :)

Justice of Peace

And that’s Mr Lau! :)

In my opinion, if you are like me, a free thinker, then you can check out this list here and look under the following 4 categories:

  • Grassroots Leaders by Divisions and by GRC
  • Justices of the Peace (by district)
  • Additional Solemnizers
  • Partners of FamilyMatters@Work

They tend to give more grounded advice on tackling problems on marriage and who knows, after that, you may join him/her in one of their marriage preparation courses (if he does conduct them) :)

Good luck! :)

P.s.: Secure your date & your venue, email the JP with your date, venue and time to see if he/she is free to solemnize your wedding. It’s as simple as that! :) Do note that you do need to register your marriage with ROM at least 3 weeks before your actual solemnization date. :)

Hello, I am looking for solemniser for my wedding in Dec 2013. When is yours? I had email most of the famous solemniser like you did, but most are not available or cannot commit at this point. How do you find Mr Lau?
