Today my colleague received a huge bouquet of flowers. It was a charming combination of blood red roses and those elegant looking lilies.
She always receives flowers! I’ve only been here 5 months and she received 2 huge bouquets already. The first wasn’t as nice. It was quite like a mess of assorted flowers really. That didn’t stop me from swooning over it of course.
The delivery man came by today and since (as usual) nobody wanted to tend to him, and I happened to stand up, I signed for the flowers. When I saw the flowers, my heart gave a little skip. No matter what, I always seem to have this little dim hope of having flowers addressed to me. What? Cannot ah. I am woman. I like flowers. They make my heart swoon, my head a little giddy with joy and my cheeks hurt from grinning like an idiot.
Like how could it be mine?! Who would send me flowers? Those men in the books I read? Those men in the dramas I watch? Imaginary lovers. Haha.
Sigh. Anyway, I couldn’t resist lowering my nose for a sniff. Ah. Roses always smell so nice. I never thought roses and lilies would go well together. But they do, evident by the lovely bouquet in front of me.
And of course everyone who walked by and saw the roses on the table asked around who the roses are for. And I have to be the one nearby.
I think it’s my colleague’s birthday – hence the flowers. Prolly the last time was anniversary then. Her partner’s a woman.
Do I have to be a lesbian to get flowers then?
What’s wrong with a little frivolous, a little expensive, a little showy, once in a while bouquet? I try to be practical and I fail miserably.
