Directed by famous J-Horror director, Norio Tsuruta of “Ju-On/ The Grudge” and “Premonition” fame, P.O.V is shot in a refreshing mockumentary style, tapping into the genre of  point-of-view horror movies like “The Blair Witch Project”, “Paranormal Activity” and “REC”.

Synopsis

Mirai and Haruna are shooting a show streamed on smartphones which introduces different viewer submitted videos. That day the videos were all of paranormal phenomena, carefully selected alleged accurate accounts of haunted occurrences. In the middle of one video, the image gets interrupted, immediately turning back on to show a footage that was not in the script. The video capture an urban legend rumored at Haruna’s school. A psychic on the show assesses that a certain demonological ritual must be performed in order to rid the school of this phenomena. The director, agents and the two girls go to the school accordingly to find there is more to the video than meets the eye.

So how was it?

First of all, I hate horror movies. Ok fine, I’m terrified of them. I haven’t really watched any full length horror films since “THE RING”. Yes that’s a long time ago.

But for the BF, I shall try watching this. I forgot to bring my horror movie gear – my shawl (to cover eyes and ears). So I felt rather vulnerable. Dark cinema, big plush seats (too much space… not that I am complaining but this is a horror film) and too big a screen.

It was everything I was afraid of.

It had suspense, it had crazy sound effects that makes my heart stop and it had crazy camera angles which made me suspicious of everything.

It was draggy in some parts of the movie. And had some parts which are too real! They had a scene where it seemed like they were in our cinema videotapping us. Sheesh that was scary.

I would give this a 3.5/5 rating. Go check it out in cinemas starting 26 April! :)
