Dim Dim – The Hong Kong Pantry @ Marina Square

This is a belated post on a food tasting event I was invited to some time back. I’ve never heard of Dim Dim, so I thought it’ll be a good opportunity to check it out. Dim Dim is located at Marina Link near the exit of Esplanade MRT. It’s not an area which many would pass by so it took me a little while to find my way there.

Dim Dim – The Hong Kong Pantry is a local based Dim Sum place that serves up 100% handmade dim sum. There are 5 items that I tried and would recommend!

#1 & #2: Steamed Prawn Dumpling S$4.20 & Deep Fried Shrimp in Beancurd Skin Roll S$4.60

The prawns used were fresh and juicy. This would be excellent if the skin was a little thinner. The deep fried shrimp in bean curd skin roll was a little too oily for me but the prawn fillings were excellent in this! I am thinking maybe all their prawn dishes are good!

#3: Cuttlefish and Peanut Congee S$5.00

This may be quite plain to some but I liked this very much. It’s a great all-time comfort food. The congee was very smooth and had bits of cuttlefish (chewy), peanuts and flour crisp (cripsy) in it. I loved every bite. MUST ORDER.

Sorry I couldn’t get a good photo of this dish! :(

#4: Steamed Pork Dumpling S$3.60

Me likey all kinds of siew mai! This wasn’t the best that I’ve tried but it’s decent and I love how juicy these little dumplings are.

#5: Chilled Pumpkin Puree with Black Glutinous S$3.20

When I was recommended this dessert, I was like, what? Pumpkin Puree? That can’t be good… my gung-ho husband went for it and I tried a spoonful. I’m glad I did because it was very very good! There wasn’t much pumpkin taste though. Most of the flavour came from the coconut ice cream. Nobody’s complaining here cos I love coconut ice cream.

Oh and do try their Hong Kong Milk Tea (S$2.60). It has a great balance of milk & tea and my request to make it less sweet was well executed.

Besides the usual dim sum items, Dim Dim also serves a selection of rice and noodles. There’s also a high tea menu at $6.80++ that includes a choice of Congee/Cheong Fun/Noodle, Steamed/Fried Dim Sum and Soya Milk on weekdays from 3pm to 5pm.
