Shakura Pigmentation Facial Review

Last I went for a skin scan, I was told that I have pigmentation that will be appearing soon. That’s like one of the major skin conditions that I dread and fear.

There are no absolute way of removing pigmentation once it appears but there are ways to lighten it.

I recently went for a trial session Shakura’s Signature treatment that is clinically proven to reduce pigmentation and discolouration.

Shakura is the Pigmentation Specialist from Japan provides customised skin-lightening treatments, suitable for Asian skin types.

At Shakura, 6 signs of pigmentation will be visibly repaired in just one session:
– Sheds away dead skin cells
– Encourages the growth of new skin cells
– Rehydrates and revives soft, smooth and radiant skin
– Unclogs and minimises pore size
– Visibly lightens pigmentation
– Stimulates the production of collagen and elastin

During the trial, a skin analysis was given. My assigned therapist is Vivian.

My cheek area versus my hand area. Our hands are usually the place with healthy skin – as seen in all the triangles above. The more well defined your triangles are, the healthier and younger it is. As you can see above, my cheek area is lacking in collagen. Worst thing is, the scan also showed that a couple of pigmentation spots has already shown up. :(

I am totally going to seek aggressive treatment on these spots before they get darker. The facial begun after that.

V ivian was very nice to explain every product she used on my face and what the steps were.

She mentioned that my skin was quite dry and the facial started off with makeup removal and a simple hydrating mask which can help to soften my skin to make extraction easier.

After which, she did the extractions and trimmed my eyebrows.

Then came the highlight of the facial – application of their special in house concoction of enzyme.

Specially formulated with the perfect combination of Milk Essence and Red Ruby Roselle, and naturally enriched with Vitamin C and amino acid, Shakura’s formula repairs and rehydrates pigmented skin from deep within. The formula also acts as an anti-oxidant with intensive-humectant hydrating properties to improve skin texture and promote blood circulation, leaving you with smooth, radiant and luminous skin free from pigmentation spots.

This enzyme is first applied thinly over my face, focusing more on my pigmentation area. It stung a little bit here and there. My therapist said that the parts the sting are parts where the skin is less healthy.

When she applied the second layer, it didn’t sting as much anymore.

After that, she showed me a half face comparison (cos she only did only half my face first) and the part where she put the enzyme really looked visibly brighter and the pigmentation slightly lighter. I took a picture but it doesn’t show the improvements well. Anyhoo, I was happy with it.

She then went on to complete the other side of my face.

The last step of the facial was a double layer mask. The base mask is one that’s customised for your skin condition. For me it was a vitamin c mask. This was then layered on with Shakura’s Milk Essence treatment mask which helps to lighten pigmentation, brighten skin, and even out colour tone.

I also enjoyed the shoulder massage she did while my mask was working it’s magic.

And the results?

The cheek area before was shiny, and lacking in collagen. The after picture shows that it’s well hydrated and has more collagen. :)

My therapist mentioned that it’ll take a few treatments to really lighten my pigmentation spots further. But what was achieved in one session was pretty good. At Shakura, their facials have a strong emphasis on the products they use. The treatments are non-surgical and do not involve any laser procedures. If you have pigmentation you want to lighten, you may want to check out Shakura.

Hey Ng Juan, I understand that bloggers require sponsored posts to make a living, but it is unfair to your readers to recommend such a place? In the long term, you would eventually lose all credibility :/

I refer to my free trial with Shakura on 16th January 2016 at 12pm.

Despite it’s many poor reviews online, my friend had recommended me here because the staffs were not pushy, and the extraction was good. That was exciting news for me because other facials we’ve been to usually could not get anything out from our faces.

I had encountered pushy staffs before, but never have I experienced such poor service. To call it a service is laughable. Receptionist was unsmiling, cold, basically I was more friendly to her than she was to me: first sign of the poor unregulated quality of service here.

Second, if the company is against students (i’m 20) receiving trials, then i advice that they set an age limit (i.e. 23 years and above) instead of wasting your consultant’s “efforts” and the time of customers. Indeed it was a waste of my precious 2 hours, I literally wouldn’t go again if it’s free.

The moment she sat down, the consultant asked in Mandarin “Tell me first, 那个package你要买的吗?” Despite my numerous replies in English, she repeatedly refused to engage me in English. I was tempted to walk out if she continued because i couldn’t understand her very well! (Which she knew, from my broken replies in Mandarin, and which she chose to rudely dismiss). In summary, staff had poor command of English, and appeared to struggle with speaking politely, perhaps due to poor management from the company. Suggestion: Hire professional staffs if you want to charge $100 for the most basic facial

I replied that I would decide after the trial, because there was supposedly a difference after just ONE time? Her following replies after was unacceptable.

“You student, no money one I KNOW”

“Do you always go for free stuffs?”

“YA YA YA YA, you listen to me, see you talk talk talk taaaalk so much then i cannot explain, you understand anot?” (Goes on to NOT answer my question on its effectiveness)

“you DONT need to worry, it’s free okay, you DONT need to pay anything” (Smile vanishes immediately) (****I did not ask anything about the price! I was ready to walk out by then, who would pay money to receive service from such an undeserving rude scum?! What a bully!)

I asked how long she had been in the service, which was just a filler question that I would likewise ask a hair stylist or dentist when there were long awkward silences (She was doing sth on the computer). She flew into a fit, claiming that i thought she was inexperienced and angrily demanded to know if i wanted another staff to speak to me. Her unprofessional demeanor really belies the fact that she has worked there for 23 years? I told myself to just tolerate it, I spend 45minutes getting here, let’s just ignore her rude upbringing because i came for the facial.

To be fair, she was more pleasant during the actual facial itself, there was no hard-selling after, and she did manage to unclog a few pores during the extraction. However, she did not explain what she was putting on my face until i asked? One of their weird essences stung my face like crazy, which was so bad? it was probably some substandard beauty product??

In fact, she did not bother to scan my face or show me a before & after photo. What she did was to push a mirror to me “Got difference, right anot?” And no, there was no difference. What a waste of my 3 hours (+ transport time). I also note that she skipped all the massages on the shoulder/face that the reviews said there was.

My skin broke out in a few days, FOR A FEW MONTHS after their horrible treatment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I should have just left when their “essence” stung my face. Who knew what that bitch placed in there!

      Hi Huiling

Thank you for sharing your experience here. I am sorry to hear you had such a terrible experience. It does sound like it was really bad and I would be really mad too if I was treated the same way as you. If you haven’t already, do direct your feedback to Shakura themselves so that they can clarify their staff’s behaviour – cos they should!

I was invited for a one time trial back in 2014 (I did not receive any monetary payment for this) and I was free to be honest about my experience. And I did honestly have a good experience as per my blog post. It’s most unfortunate that your experience was so different and so bad.

One time trials are not something I need for this blog to survive. This blog is based off my interest to try new things and share about my experience. I recommended my readers to check them out (and why not when I did have a good experience) and trust that my readers would be savvy enough to make up their mind about whether Shakura is right for them after doing more research/trying them out/after a consultation.

I approved your comment to allow my readers to see an alternative review of Shakura. As is the case for all other “beauty packages”, please make sure you feel absolutely comfortable with the company BEFORE committing.

      Best regards,
      Ju Ann

I am glad I chose Shakura for my facial treatments. I got my treatment done at the Jurong Point outlet last week, and I fell in love with their service and care. They are true experts and understand what a customer really needs. They were genuine in suggesting solutions to me. No foul play, no fake commitments. Everything was crystal clear.
If I talk about my visit, I was warmly welcomed by the Shakura staff. Let me reiterate that their approach is very customer-centric, and the care and attention is very genuine. You’ll experience it from the first visit, not just in their mannerisms, but in their impressive treatments too. I get daily compliments for the apparent glow on my skin, which makes me blush! They have customized skincare solutions for customers facing pigmentation concerns/skin trouble.
I have nothing but thanks and absolutely no complaints for the team at Shakura. I would love to visit your guys again for your services. My special thanks to Felicia for her valuable suggestions and consultation. You’re a true champ.
