Ridiculous Service at Pamperloft Boon Keng

I am sooooo angry!!! So I bought a deal coupon from deal.com.sg for eyelash extension at this little place called Pamperloft at Boon Keng MRT. Since I do live near Boon Keng and I do want to have my lashes all prettied up for my upcoming holiday, I thought this would be a good idea!

Well, let me share with you my experience at Pamperloft. Here’s the coupon I purchased on deal.com.sg

It says here: Unlimited Strand by Strand Eyelash Extension. I paid $12 for this treatment which is valued at $58.

On 14 Dec, Sunday, I was greeted by 2 ladies in an empty shop. The lady who did my lashes, Tina, started up-selling a top-up option that they have available.

  • $12 deal coupon gets me the “basic” type of fake eyelash strand.
  • Add on $38 cash and I’ll get the “premium” type of fake eyelash strand.

I had a bad feeling when I left the place. I took this picture thinking I might need it. Unfortunately, I am right.

She said that the deal I bought ($12) was a bad one. The treatment that I bought doesn’t last long, the strands are uncomfortable for most people and it’s not very natural looking too. I was a bit puzzled. Why would a company put up a deal for something that is not good?

Why would you use that to publicize your company and your company’s services? So I asked her and she told me that they don’t make money from that deal and they just want to create some promotional hype through that cheap price. What…….

At this point I was feeling very uneasy already. Just within 5 mins of me entering the shop, here I have the person who will be doing the treatment on me telling me that it’s a bad idea to proceed with the deal option.

She claimed that the more “premium” fake eyelash strand was softer and more natural looking. She made me touch both to feel the difference. To be honest, I can’t feel the difference and I told her that too. Also, she will use a better glue that will help the lashes stay on longer.

She even added on to say that all the people who bought the deal will top up money to get this softer lash version. She even said that there was a female customer who came back the next day after doing the basic lash option ($12) and asked to have all her lashes removed because it was uncomfortable.

I really could not tell the difference so I told her I will proceed with the option that I paid $12 for. I had a very bad feeling about this already. I was contemplating if I should leave the place and just don’t do the treatment at all. Because I really believed Tina and I was very worried about having eyelash extension that were un-natural and uncomfortable. It was a real concern.

Determined to continue up-selling (or maybe she was worried if I went ahead with the $12 option, I would come back and bother her, who knows), she said she will do a test first. She will attach one lash using the basic lash option (included in $12 coupon) and another lash using the premium lash option (top up $38).

I could see that the $12 deal option was darker, thicker and more curly, compared to the $38 option, I did like how the premium lash look more. I was judging based on 2 thin eyelashes.

At this point I was quite tired of saying no. Tina really convinced me that the basic lash option was not something most people will be happy with (so the likelihood that I would be happy with my lashes = lower). I was weak, I believed her. I wasn’t even prepared for any up-selling and I REALLY did want to have nice, long-lasting lashes for my trip.

It was either I walk out (and forego the deal coupon I bought) or I pay the top up.

I agreed to topping up but not at $38. Paying another $38 + $12 (what I paid for the deal) = $50. I might as well have gone for a full priced one!

So she gave me a discount and offered it at $28. $28 + $12 = $40. I agreed and the treatment proceeded.

One hour after, I woke up with all the lashes stuck on and it wasn’t as dense as I would like it to be but I was tired and I just wanted to leave the place.

Tina sent me off telling me to make sure I don’t let the lashes touch water for at least 8 hours and no rubbing of my eyes.

I did exactly that but within 3 hours after the treatment, 2 lashes fell. A total of 15 strands fell over the next 24 hours. I was so upset. I paid $40 for something that did not even last 24 hours.

Here are some pictures:

Within 48 hours, I only had 6 strands of fake eyelash extensions left. :(

My Left Eye with only 9 strands left

Tina said it’s probably because I didn’t take care of my lash extensions. But THIS within 48 hours?

I only managed to call them on 16 Dec (2 days later), and told Tina of my issue. She asked me to return to let her take a look to see why it all drop off. I asked if she’s going to redo my lashes or refund me if I go down. She said they don’t usually redo or refund… then I asked what’s the point of me going down to show her the condition of my lashes then?? SIGH.

She gave me the usual spiel of how when she told me the lashes can last 1 month is the usual by her customers but the duration of how long the eyelashes stay on is dependent on each individual’s level of care etc, etc, etc.

I told her straight out. If I called you after 3 weeks, or even 2 weeks, you could still say that oh it’s because I didn’t take good care of it or whatever. BUT AFTER 2 DAYS? WITHIN 48 HOURS? Especially when the bulk of all the lashes fell within 1 day???????????????????

Sorry Tina, your standard reply just does not work and it made me feel like you experience this often, hence the usual spiel.  I don’t think it has anything to do with how I treat my lashes. I am not a newbie to eyelash extensions, I know what a good eyelash extension service is supposed to look like.

We went back and forth many times. Finally she said she will redo my lashes if I return within the next 1-2 days. Problem is? I really don’t have time. I have a flight to catch and errands to run before I fly off for my holiday.

While I understand companies have company policies but seriously I don’t think it’s too much to ask that they make an exception to allow me to go back when I am back from my holiday. I wasn’t even pushing for a full refund at this point.

I asked to speak with her boss but she refused, saying that her boss is not with her now. Well, if I were her I would try to handle all customer complaints myself if possible, so okay I do understand her POV.

I told her I’ll find my own way to reach out to the owner. I did so through their Facebook page and what I got was the same.

No redo/touch ups if I exceed the 1 week period. I offered to send photos of my eyelashes over, just to prove that they aren’t done well and have mostly all fallen off. But they said no.

Well, that’s the end of my story with them. I did not fight any further. They didn’t bother contacting me again.

I will take $40 as an expensive lesson learnt and I hope that through my post here, more people will know of their service standards and policies. I was the cheapo one thinking it was a good deal to get eyelashes extended for only $12.

I ended up paying $40 for something that did not even last past 2 days.

Besides wanting to get a good deal, one of the key reasons why I bought this deal was because I wanted to support the local businesses around the area where I live in. Through this coupon deal, I had the opportunity to discover a business I otherwise wouldn’t have known about. It is most unfortunate that Pamperloft is such an absolute disappointment.
