Reflection

I went for yoga the other day with Master Kamal who is truly an inspiring yoga master. He is unlike most others who are very serious or are very nonchalent about each student’s poses.

Master Kamal inspires each student to do their best. You’ll find that regardless of how simple a pose you used to think it was, a class with Master Kamal in it will make you sweat like a pig because he inspires you to push further.

He said something last saturday that I found very thought-provoking.

He said that yoga is a practice that trains your mind, body and spirit to be lighter and happier (or something like that. I can’t remember the exact awe-inspiring phase).

He said that it trains you to be happy even through the bad times. It helps us achieve a deep inner sense of peace and overall relaxation.

*brake* Hang on a bit there. Happy, even through the bad times? But I’ve never been raised for that to be right! Well, not specifically the way from the way I was brought up but I was referring more so to the society we live in. Can we really be happy even through the bad times?

What about the times a not-so-close family member passes away and you don’t feel anything. In fact you could be solemn at the funeral and then go partying at night, aren’t we trained to feel guilty for feeling joy so soon after?

Or maybe like recently, when I stupidly lost my laptop… I felt terrible! For like half a day. Then because my boss wasn’t so harsh on me for that, I felt better. Then I got a new laptop within 2 days and it was my dream laptop. Then I was truly torn between feeling excited and guilty about it all.

Have you ever had the… I really don’t think I deserve to be happy… I really shouldn’t be so happy about this… etc etc feeling?

It happens to me all the time.

Then Master Kamal said that we can be happy even through the bad times and here I was thinking, why didn’t I ever realise something as simple as that?

And we all are fighting the day to day battles, seeking happiness when we aren’t even ready to embrace it wholeheartedly.

Ok I sound a bit preachy but I just thought I had to get this off my chest.

Anyhow, I’m going to try to live life a little bit different now. I hope all who read this are able to find happiness and joy even through all the bad times. That’s what makes life worth living.

In my humble opinion.
