As many new mothers can attest, pregnancy is no picnic. Recently I tried out Prenatal Chiropractic Care in Singapore and boy am I feeling relieved. The muscle strains of pregnancy are very real and can be more than just a nuisance. I am now experiencing backaches, aches below my belly and the occasional calf strains due to calf cramps at night. :(
It’s great that although I am now pregnant, my regular chiropractor, Dr. Brian at Kirolounge has advised that I continue to go for my therapy regularly and he’s been such a gem! :)
Prenatal Chiropractic Care
Pregnant women are highly susceptible to subluxation as their posture radically changes over the course of 40+weeks. Notably, most women will develop rounded shoulders and forward head posture, and as the baby bump grows, women will start to develop lumbar and pelvic subluxations. And if the top and bottom of the spine are misaligned, there will definitely be alignment issues in the mid back as well. Again, no surprise that with subluxation ruining the natural alignment of the spine, women experience not just pain, but other health imbalances as the body functions below optimal levels.
Chiropractic and adjustments can help to improve alignment and mechanics.
As advised by Dr Brian, there are many benefits to getting chiropractic care during your pregnancy. Chiropractic care during pregnancy can improve and then maintain balance and alignment in your spine and pelvis. The best possible outcome from this would be to allow your baby to assume the his/her optimal position and reduce the risk of breech baby.
Regular prenatal chiropractic care can also facilitate a more comfortable pregnancy and delivery for both mother and baby. By stimulating the nervous system, it also enables optimal function of vital organs such as the reproductive system, providing better support for the needs of your baby.
When I told Dr Brian that I have been experiencing aches below my belly, he did some exercises on my pelvic area to help ease my pain. It hurt while he did it but the pain quickly eased off and I really felt a lot better after that.
Make sure that any chiropractor you choose has been trained to work with pregnant women and offers prenatal chiropractic care. I have seen many young children and pregnant women at Kirolounge and getting treated by Dr Brian. You should be placed on a special table made to keep pressure off your belly during treatments.
And as with any activity or therapy you do during your pregnancy, do check with your gynae before proceeding. :)
