Keisuke Tonkotsu King at Orchid Hotel (Tanjong Pagar) is what I would really label as one of the best ramen places in Singapore.
A small ramen shop, often overcrowded with long queues, Keisuke Tonkotsu King serves only pork based soups with three varieties to choose from – spicy, black pepper and regular.
Note: Like all the good ramen shops, this is not a place to chill or have a chat after your meal. This is a “eat and run” place.
As we queue, you’ll be given a board and a piece of paper to write your order on. It’s a very simple and straightforward menu. I always always order the original whenever I am first time at a new eatery.
The options on the menu are:
♥ choice of toppings (seaweed, egg, chashu)
♥ how strong or light you want the soup
♥ how much chicken oil is added
♥ texture of the noodles.
♥ type of broth – spicy, regular or black sesame
On a sunday afternoon at 2.30pm, we were seated within 30mins.
What I super love about this place is it’s unlimited supply of eat-all-you-can eggs and beansprouts. See the whole canister of sprouts there? Between the BF and me, we can finish the whole canister in one sitting. It is THAT nice with the ramen. Very very crunchy.
I had the regular ramen.
The broth was thick, savoury and rich. I loved it. It is also very filling! The noodles absorbed the taste of the soup really quickly. I added a lot of beansprouts in and it was really yums. I ordered medium texture for the noodles and it was perfectly al dente.
Check out above, how thick the soup is and all the fatty bits of pork is still in the soup. Truth be told, the only thing I don’t really like are all the fats I see in the soup. But to be as honest, I think that’s what gives it the rich, thick flavour.
Cha Shu was melt-in-your-mouth quality. No complains about it! :)
We also tried the Black Spicy version but the best I felt was still the Regular as you wouldn’t have any black (or red – if you order red) chilli to take away the simply tasty pork broth.
Overall, I will definitely return for more. Customer service was friendly and was super quick and efficient. Within 5 mins of sitting down, my noodles arrive. :) We eat and leave right after we finish. SLURP!
