Makan at Nihon Mura 日本村 (The Cathay)

To sum up my experience at this little Jap restro tucked away at The Cathay’s basement, I would say…. it’s safe to give it a miss. It used to be known as the 99cent a plate sushi but the prices have gone up slightly which is not a bad thing but their customer service was just. plain. BAD.

The waitresses kept going around clearing tables and looking very disgruntled in general.

I didn’t like the layout of the restaurant at all. Why is the conveyor belt so far away from where the customers are seated? Isn’t there something to be said about how conveyor belts frequently make people order on impulse? Now the experience of ordering is so mechanical. I want something, I walk up and find it on the belt and then go to the cashier.

I also asked too many times for a refill of tea before my request was met.

Here’s some of the food I had:

Nihon Mura The Cathay

Another decent dish – The Agadeshi Tofu.

Nihon Mura The Cathay

Sashimi rice. My favourite way to indulge in all the sashimi I can eat! Yum yum!

Nihon Mura The Cathay

Dragon roll is very cheap compared to other places like Sushi Tei, and MOF. Something about this didn’t taste as nice as the one at MOF though..

Nihon Mura The Cathay

Salmon Sashimi – decent!

Nihon Mura The Cathay

The chicken is decent. A little on the oily side.

Nihon Mura The Cathay

I hate Udon. The BF ordered that. I think only the chicken was nice.

Don’t get me wrong. The food was decent. The price is very reasonable too. But I think it’ll be quite a while before I come back to this place again.
