Lime Flea Market – 23rd Feb

Yes, a very long overdue post.

My best buds and I had some stuff to clear and here we are – LIME Flea Market. “Some stuff to clear” were actually clothes that we bought online and the size/cutting wasn’t right when it arrived. Sigh. I am so ashamed about the $300 worth of clothes that I bought online. Every single one of those are brand new and well, don’t fit me. So, to the Flea Market for some yelling and selling!

There were many many stalls – all very closely cramped together. I was quite pissed that I had to be assigned to the worst possible spot – RIGHT under the sun and cramped with other vendors on my left, right and front. It was a bloody hot day as well. So that meant from 12-2pm no self-loving female came near our stall. The vendor in front of me made the pathway in front of my stall extremely squeezy. Sigh. I complained to the organiser representative twice and he said he couldn’t do anything to help me. He was however, very kind to give me suggestions on how to make the best of the tiny slot I had.

The empty space in front of my stall. Good right? I was hoping those people who rented that stall wouldn’t turn up, but… well, of course they did. Look what happened. =(

They had 3 big tables. So the pathways surrounding their stall was very much narrower. At the beginning, we priced each item on the table for $10. Then business was very very slow. DAMN HEAT.

That dress of mine from ASOS was “felt” by so many females! But nobody was willing to pay $38 for it. Well, I didn’t care that much either. It’s a really nice piece all the way from UK and I rather keep it than sell it. 2 girls were very close to buying it but later decided against it because it was too big or too small for them. Ah dammit.

If you notice, the price dropped to $8 after a couple of hours……………..

… still sales were slow. (Already lowed price to $5!!!!)

A discount bin to draw the crowd in and hopefully while they’re at our stall, something more pricey would catch their eye!

There there! Hahaha!! One fish nibbling….
(I think this lady eventually bought something from the $3 bin only)

(2 hours into selling) HUAT Ah!!

(3 hours later) No business la…………..

(6 hours later) Really no business lehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

You want my take on Lime Flea Market?

1) Getting a stall at the Lime Flea Market
To get a stall at the Lime Flea Market, simply email your application to: fleamarket@lime.com.sg with the subject as “Application for a stall at Lime flea market”.
Remember to include the following details:
Name, Age, IC number, Address, Mobile number, E-mail address, Descriptions of stuff to be sold and Code:8DAYS. There will be a balloting done and you’ll be informed if you are chosen.

2) Making payment
You are to go down to AMK Ave 10 to make payment during working hours on weekdays only. So STUPID. I nearly wanted to give this up. I only did managed to make payment eventually because I happened to have a meeting near there one of the weekdays. Btw, I think you could also pay on the spot on the day itself. Not very sure though.

Cost of rental for one day from 12-7pm: $20
Cost of rental of table: $5 per table
Cost of rental of chairs: $1 per chair

3) The crowd
Poly, ITE, JC and Uni students make up the bulk of the people who turned up. There are the usual maids, caucasian families and aunties (who buy for their grandchildren…) making up the rest of the crowd. All I can say is, if you are like me, looking to sell brand new branded stuff, don’t bother unless you are willing to let it go at a super duper low price of like, erm, $10 or less. Most of the people come when it’s not so sunny, usually about 4-7pm.

4) The other vendors
There are a wide variety of people selling all sorts of things. Clothes, accessories, bags are major commodities sold. The prices keep getting lower with time. There are many who sell their wares from $3 onwards so the competition is really there. There are only the few who keep their prices high and stagnant and these are the ones who are truly selling something unique and different from the rest. They did get some sales but not as many as those who were selling it at ridiculously low prices.

5) GO EARLY
Yes you heard me! Go early! If you don’t, you will that the neighbouring vendors would have been very considerate to make sure you didn’t waste the rent money by occupying as much of your allocated space as possible. So, really, go early, walk around, do some market research and price your items thoughtfully.

6) Would I go again?
Well, maybe not. I really only have new clothes that are really pricey – well too pricey for flea market go-ers. I am not generalising them per-se but anyone, you or I who go to a flea market would only expect CHEAP goods in REASONABLY good condition. I personally wouldn’t be willing to pay for something brand new and one that I would have difficulty trying on as well. So there. People with clothes that they just want to get rid of and don’t mind selling them for $3-$5, then yes this is quite good a place for you.

Well, then I did make back the $30 that I paid for stall (X1) and table (X2) rental. And sold quite a few very very old clothes. So I was happy still! Though I wish I could have sold ALL my online sins!!! *Sulk*
