Back To Work With A IP Camera Installed At Home!

My maternity leave has ended and I am back to work at my full time job (and no, blogging isn’t my full time job). Leaving only my helper and my baby at home for so many hours a day, we definitely saw the need to get a IP Camera installed.

Back at work, the most popular question everybody asks me is…

“Who takes care of your kids when you are at work?”

Well, my older boy goes to a full day childcare centre and the small one stays home with my maid.

“Aren’t you worried?”

I don’t really have a choice. We don’t have family in Singapore, and thankfully my maid’s not a newbie with us and has been with us since 2013.

But still, I’m a little upset that I have to work and I can’t spend every minute watching Baby Nathen grow up. I decided to install a IP camera so that I can still see what’s going on at home.

DLink IP Camera

D-Link recently launched their new DLink IP Camera (HD Ultra-Wide View Wi-Fi Camera), and I liked what it had to offer.

Features of the DLink IP Camera include:

Widest angle lens available on a consumer fixed camera

With a fantastic Horizon-wide 180° lens, I only need 1 camera instead of multiple ones to capture a wider area. There are cameras which allow you to turn left and right but those come with delays and the speed is dependent on your internet connection. With this DLink IP Camera, all I do is just click the mydlink Lite app on my phone and an entire view of my living room appears quickly.

HD video quality, sound and motion detection.

I used to have a camera that has 720p quality and it annoyed me slightly that I couldn’t get a clearer picture – especially when I wanted to zoom in to see if my baby is crying or laughing. Check out the quality on a 480p versus a 720p display.

Another interesting feature is the sound and motion detection. You can get alerts on your smartphone when movement is detected, or if there is a loud noise in your house, this feature is most useful when no one will be home.

MicroSD Card slot for local recording

Personally I think this is a good to have and not a must-have feature. For my husband, he loves this feature because he can play back and see what took place during the day.

Automatic day/night viewing

This is really important, for obvious reasons! Whether it’s day or night, the camera automatically adjusts to allow you to still have great visibility. Check out the difference between lights on and lights off (complete darkness) – pretty good!

And, of course, as is the case with most Wi-Fi cameras, there is a mobile app for accessing the video feed and camera preferences –  is available for both iOS and Android devices.

WAS IT EASY TO INSTALL?

This is one of the most important factors when I choose a IP camera. After I was assured that the DLink IP Camera would be easy, I decided to get it! :)

It really was as simple as plugging power into the camera, and I just had to follow the clear step-by-step instructions provided in the box.

The only lengthy part, as is the case with most Wi-Fi cameras, is that connecting between your mobile device and the camera. It can take a little bit of time, so, be patient!

After setting it up, using it was a breeze. It didn’t need anything from me. It just works every time I reach for my phone to see what’s happening at home. All I have to do is launch the mydlink Lite app (available for both iOS and Android devices).

Installing the DLink IP Camera has definitely given me a peace of mind and a little bit more control over whats happening at home while I’m out at work. :)
