I'm a little doubtful of love

A cheating husband here, a gambler husband there, broken marriages everywhere. I’m a little doubtful of love.

Aileen and Samuel dated for 9 years and finally tied the knot last Saturday. I’m so happy for them. At the church wedding, her pastor quoted from the Bible:

In a word, there are three things that last forever:
Faith, hope, and love;
But the greatest of them all is love.
1 Corinthians 13:4-7

I think it takes a great amount of faith and hope to believe that love can prevail anything. Love can make us do crazy things and feel immensly happy and sad. Love can makeus want to get married and have kids and believe in happy ever afters.

But can Love really protect us from distractions and greed?

Can love prevent him/her from cheating? Can love prevent him/her from doing selfish things that brings harm to the one they love?

Whenever I hear yet another marriage shaken or broken due to cheating or gambling… it just makes me feel a lot less hopeful that Love can be beautiful and can have beautiful happily ever afters.

I don’t want to sound too negative on a Monday morning (though I suppose I have already done so). I leave you with a link to check out what kids think of love.

To all dating and married couples out there, I wish you all the best. I’ve seen cases of Love conquering all. I’m just not so sure I’ll be lucky to experience it myself. That’s not to say no one else would as well. So good luck! :)

    I feel you, but it takes more than faith for a lasting relationship. So much more to compromise and accomodate and the willingness to give and take.

    It’s scary to give someone your heart and love without holding back and getting that in return.. but I’m sure you’ll definitely have a chance to experience that :)
