Fate has a funny way of reminding you of the past

To put it in the nicest way possible, I didn’t have too good a time when making my first strokes through the shark-infested waters that is known more commonly as a big advertising agency. It was difficult to blend in, even more so because everybody was moving, talking, arguing and laughing at speeds of light!

They even tell jokes at super high speeds.
To cut the long painful story short, I was out of there in 3 months, but I learnt more than I guess I ever would have if I had worked 1 year in a small agency.
This guy, let’s call him A, used to do digital touchups there. I often passed him by in the narrow alleyways that made up the office. I remember being fresh out of school and then he went and digitally placed a tree in a landscape shot (one of the many ridiculous demands from clients) and made it look like the picture would have been weird without the tree!
I just stood at his doorway with my jaw dropped wide open wishing I could do the same.
That was pretty much all that I remember of him. I never spoke about anything other than about work (most of mine didn’t twine with his anyway).
He would be one of the many “symbols” of my first job. While I was grateful for the experience, I didn’t really enjoy myself much at this job. So I wouldn’t really say he’s someone I would like to say hi to. It’s not personal. Just symbolic.
Then that day, after 3 or 4 years I saw him at this Yong Tau Fu stall where I was having a meal with my mom and sis. I avoided eye contact even though I knew he recognised me. Don’t ask me why. It’s just symbolic.
Who’s to know that I’ll see him walk right into my office today and be forced to say Hi and be reacquainted?
You really never know what fate has up her sleeve do you?
Man, I’m spooked!
