Dinner at Modesto's

It was Shan’s birthday so Hooi and I took her to have lovely traditional wood-fired pizzas! And GOOD it was!

Modesto’s was really crowded on a Friday night. The waiters were too busy to put on a smile. When we couldn’t decide what to order, we asked for recommendations and felt like we were being rushed. The queue waiting to get into the restaurant grew not because the restaurant was full but because the guy managing the customers is completely inadept at his job.

All the nasty things aside, I was still pretty optimistic about the food. :)

When we were seated, it pleased me to see that they have taken the effort to decorate the place with touches of old Italy and Tuscan brickwork. It made me wistful for a moment as I thought about my wonderful trip to Italy – one that I miss very much.

On that wall was a painting of the Ponte Vecchio in Florence, Italy. It made me go, “I was there! I was there!” :)

Oh, the best thing about the service here, sorry, I mean, the only GOOD thing about the service here is that they keep refilling my cup of water. Which is good – cos I am a walking water tank.

On to the food! None of us 3 were familiar with this place, so we looked round, and ordered what others were having and also with some recommendations from the (reluctant) waitress.

The menu served appetizers which they named “Antipasti”. Ah, just like what the Italians call it. :)

We were here only for one thing and that is PIZZAS!

Pizza Ai Fungi. Needless to say this is the mushroom cheese pizza. It’s very very nice. This is my favourite. The taste of mushroom & cheese on pizza base just seems to work very well all the time. The shittake mushrooms used in this dish is really yummy. Must TRY! – $18

Pizza Al Salmone Fumicato – smoked salmon pizza. I remember in Rome, the best pizza I ever had was the smoked salmon pizza. I wanted to see if it’s as good here as well. Well, the pizza crust was, like the mushroom one, very very nice but the salmon… didn’t really make me go wow. – $21

So we thought that was enough for 3 girls but…

… we ordered more! The pizzas were thin-crust and didn’t fill us up much – or maybe we were too opverly happy to find thin-crust pizzas and ate everything up with room to spare!

Supposedly their best pasta dish – The Linguine ALLA Modesto. Erm, not very nice. Too tomatey for my taste. – $24

All in all, I’m already planning my next trip there! I need to try the 3 cheese pizza and their humongous 20-inch pizza! :D

And because it’s really quite a nice place for pizza (oh Singapore do lack such places), I’ll leave you with a “How to Get There”.
