A 1960's dessert – Ice Ball

The Ice Ball – a long forgotten dessert that used to be very popular back in the 1960’s. It was a pity I wasn’t around when these were all the rage, but when I was young, there were quite a few places still selling this. Nowadays, you hardly find this anymore.

So to stumble upon this today at the Singapore Food Trail at the Singapore Flyer, it was quite a pleasure.

Although to be honest, I couldn’t quite remember how an Ice Ball should taste like. The desserts of today are the fancy, gigantic ice-kachangs that come in all sorts of flavours.

In comparison, this Ice Ball was back to basics.

A ball of ice that is very compactly packed, drizzled with coloured syrups and condensed milk. Once broken open, you’ll find atap chees and red beans in there. This was all served in a little bowl.

I enjoyed my little moment of nostalgia! :)
