Chiropractic review and treatment for neck and shoulder pains

As promised, here are some of the results I got from my first chiropractic review and also my X-Ray. My chiropractors, Dr. Brian & Dr. Shondelle patiently took me through the problems I have and a recommended course of treatment for neck and shoulder pains.

Problem #1: Range of Neck Motion Compromised/Unequal between both sides

See the image above? The reddish shaded one is my result, and the white one is the IDEAL.

Cervical Flexion-Extension is my ability to move my head up and down. Chin up = Extend, Chin down = Flex.

Cervical Lateral is my ability to tilt my head sideways left and right.

Cervical Rotation is my ability to move my head left and right horizontally.

The left of my neck lefts more than my right. When Tiffany brought me through one of the steps of the Kirometer test that tested how much I could move my head to the left and to the right, results showed that I am not able to turn my head to the left as much as I can do so to the right! OMGGGGGGGG…. my left is a lot stiffer than my right.

Problem #2: Slightly Deficient Autonomic Function

What you see above is the Autonomic Activity Diagram, another result of the Kirometer test.

My results indicate slightly deficient autonomic function, meaning pressure on my nerves can be interfering or preventing autonomic organs like your heart or lungs or immune system from functioning optimally. And your result is way off to the sympathetic side. That side is related to stress and an inability of the body to process stress in a healthy way. Therefore cortisol, the stress hormone can be high and that is related to conditions such as High blood pressure, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, the list goes on. The great thing is, adjustments help to balance the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system bringing the body into better health.

Problem #3: Areas of pain

Before I went for the X Ray, the Kirometer test could tell where I was feeling most of the pain.

See those areas in red are those where I feel the most pain. The longer the red bar, the more painful. And true enough, the X Ray’s results did match the Kirometer’s findings!

Problem #4: Neck’s Bone arched incorrectly

X Ray on left is mine. Blue line indicates ideal arch. Red is mine. It’s seen here that my neck bone is too straight.

The spine has four curves. It forms a double S. These four curves are immensely important for us humans who walks upright because these four curves distribute the stress of keeping the torso vertical – it functions quite like a spring.

When we walk, the curves deepen and release. If my neck continues to be straight like above, the stresses would fall in between the vertebrae, and the disks cushioning the vertebrae would wear out quite quickly. That would lead to straining the ligaments and the muscles.

Good news is, Dr. Brian mentioned that in most of his patients, they usually experience the most significant improvements in the neck area of the spine.

IMPT: What is SUBLUXATION?
In simplest terms, a subluxation is when one or more of the bones of your spine (vertebrae) move out of position and create pressure on, or irritate spinal nerves. And that’s exactly what’s happening to me now.

Problem #5: Non Ideal Lower Back arch

Here’s the other arch in the spine which we should all have for a healthy body. Same thing, blue line indicates ideal arch. Red is mine. Not that far off but still room for improvement.

It was really after I saw my results that I decided I really needed Chiropractic help to address the causes of my neck and shoulder pain. There are many Chiropractors in Singapore, so I asked Kirolounge what made them different.

Dr. Brian said, “Many chiropractors try to specialise in pain management or relief,  this is impossible. The only expert on pain is a pain killer, and unfortunately that is a medication or pill. No one Chiropractor can tell you when you will be in or out of pain, although as I mentioned before, with adjustments, pain is typically the first thing to disappear. Our focus is that condition I taught you about during your report, SUBLUXATION.

By focusing on the condition that threatens my nervous system and therefore your health, they are focused on keeping you well. In addition to maintaining healthy function, they also focus on educating about proper diet and exercise. They have team of yoga teachers and fitness experts that are also their patients and they help to provide complimentary classes every so often.

Treatment for neck and shoulder pains

The recommended course of treatment for neck and shoulder pains is once a week adjustments for a one year period. Each chiropractic adjustment session are specifically designed to correct the vertebral subluxations in my spine.

The body will then take a few days to adjust to it and then it will go back to the non ideal state. But do this frequently, over time, the body will get used to a correct spine and the body will no longer need to move the spine it a non ideal state anymore.

Chiropractors are professionals who undergo years of training to be the experts at correcting subluxations and that’s why I feel so comfortable with Dr. Shondelle and Dr. Brian. They have many years of experience working with patients of all ages. And they are ever so willing to impart their knowledge of living and eating well.

Speaking of which, I am looking forward to their next free nutrition workshop coming up on the first Monday of next month! :) If you are interested to go as well, stay tuned to my Facebook Page. I will update on the details when I have them!
